Join us this week as we review a collection of recently released jewelry design books. We’ll post one or two reviews each day. To celebrate our Book Fair we are giving away two free books provided by Lark Books.
The first is Marcia DeCoster’s Beaded Opulence, which will be reviewed later this week by Beverly Herman.
The second book in our giveaway is Beading with World Beads, edited by Ray Hemachandra with 15 contributors such as Jean Campbell and Candie Cooper. This book features designs inspired by beads and jewelry from around the world with a contemporary edge. It’s a beautiful book that one lucky winner will enjoy adding to their library.
To enter: leave a comment to this post, one entry per person. Make sure to include a valid email if you don’t have a blog so that we can reach you if you win. On Monday morning we’ll draw two random winners from all of the entries/comments.
To help get the comments rolling I’ll ask a fun question:
What book is currently on your wish list?
I’m looking forward to reading your answers!

October 20, 2009 at 5:43 pmNew books to seek!
Funny that you should ask what books are on my wishlist… because I have no filters when it comes to buying things, particularly new books, they never really make it to a "wishlist" but rather to my shopping cart! I think that both of these look drool-worthy, particularly the second one. I am eagerly awaiting the Enchanted Adornments that I pre-ordered, as did many! I believe there is no such thing as too many books!
Enjoy the day!

October 21, 2009 at 2:40 amI've tried very hard to keep myself from putting books on my wishlist, because inevitably, I never purchase them. I want them, but I also want beads! There are plenty that I desire, though, because I would love to expand my basic knowledge of jewelry-making techniques. I would really love to get books on chain maille and intricate seed beading so I can learn to create things with both techniques.

October 21, 2009 at 12:43 pm' love your Art Bead Scene. Thanks for keeping me up-to-date on the latest books. As a bead-book junkie I love seeking out the newest books.
I would love to own the new book Beading with World Beads. Creating unique jewelry and personalizing it is a designer's dream. I make so many things for myself and daughter which have special meaning built into them. There is nothing like wearing a handmade piece of jewelry. It' magical! Choosing beads for me is the most important part of design. Owning the book Beading with World Beads would certainly enhance the creative process! It's #1 on my wish list.

October 22, 2009 at 7:09 amI've taken a peek over at Amazon at the Beading with world beads and it looks like it's made my wish list. I love ancient history and making beads that look old or using them in a piece adds greater meaning to the piece I think.
I've been wanting The Illustrated Bead Bible by by Theresa Flores Geary Ph.D, and also Collectible Beads: A Universal Aesthetic by Robert K. Liu, some fab pictures in them!

October 22, 2009 at 3:10 pmI'd love to have Beaded Opulence. I don't have many bead books mainly because as a designer with a sponge for a brain it's hard not to absorb designs and then recreate them without meaning to. The other day I was working on a new design and I suddenly realised it looked very much like Rachel Nelson-Smith's Ootheca cuff…it was sort of an Ootheca Lite version. Still, too much like someone else's work so it got ripped out. The real book on my wishlist is my own…lol…the wish to get it finished and published.

November 25, 2009 at 12:04 pmwow what beautiful designs just made out beads. check out the site http://etanro.com for really cool and personalized pendants. why am i referring for this site is because this is one such site that engraves your name on a grain of rice and gets it embedded in a good luck pendant. worth a stop for all e-shoppers i must say.
