Welcome to Studio Saturday! Each week one of our contributors gives you a sneak peek into their studio, creative process or inspirations. We ask a related question of our readers and hope you’ll leave comments! As an incentive we offer a free prize each week to bribe you to use that keyboard. The following week we choose a random winner.
This weeks winner is Pearl and Pebble Congratulations! You have won one of Jangles Pendants from the studio of Jennifer Heynen. Send Jennifer an e-mail with your address and she will get it right out to you.
This week we visit the studio of Tari Sasser at Creative Impressions In Clay.
I like to laugh. OK, so I laugh a lot. Sometimes you laugh so you don’t cry. I have at times a sick sense of humor, childish humor etc., there is a funny side to most everything. It may be inappropriate but you have to laugh.
To be entertained in the movie genre I like comedys. Life can be so serious and scary we need comic relief. My favorite movie is “The Wizard of Oz!” I have been watching it since I was a little. Much to my childrens amazement, I was little once.
To celebrate the 70th Anniversary of this wonderful movie, I’ve created pendants. Something different than most buttons/pendant I have created in a while. I started these weeks ago so I could have them for the Beads-of-Clay open Studio Blog event. I ended up spending time at local medical facility so I was unable to participate. So now there are unveiled. I hope you like them. They make me smile and start singing (in my head of course) songs from the movie.
My Question this week is:
Is there a movie or movies that has inspired you to create?
I doesn’t have to be jewelry. Any creative process.
Are you a “Good Witch” or a “Bad Witch?” Why, “I’m not a Witch at All.”
So “Follow, follow, follow, follow.” We’re “Off to see the Wizard.”
“Click Your Heels” three times, and say “There’s No Place Like Home.”
The and Powerful “Oz” has spoken!
Leave your comment (or I’ll get you my pretty) and you could win your choice of “one” of the pendants shown above.
Tari (the Button Lady) who may be a “Good Witch” or “Bad Witch” today is flying off on her broom laughing…with her little dog too!

November 7, 2009 at 6:21 pmWe love The Wizard of Oz, but of course we are from Kansas. Each day I pickup my little nieces from school and leave town headed to the country we will sing "off to see the wizard". One day I ask who is the wizard and the youngest said Uncle Steven of course. I don't think they watch The Wizard of Oz as much as I did when I was young. I try to be The Good Witch and as far as inspired by movies, the one I saw last.

November 7, 2009 at 7:22 pmTwo movies inspire me to be creative: Local Hero (beautiful colors) and Goodfellas (retro sorta vibe). The color palettes in both films are very pleasing to my eye.
Love the Oz though, also.

November 7, 2009 at 9:18 pmI have to say that movies don't really inspire me.I'm much more a reader, where my imagination works better and provides more inspiration. As for The Wizard of Oz,as a child my family watched it each year,a special event close to Thanksgiving.I don't feel like any witch at all,but I do have Toto!

November 7, 2009 at 9:29 pmMovies that have inspired me to create… well, The Cell didn't inspire me to create jewelry, but I was drawing for weeks afterward. Memoirs of a Geisha is one of my favorite movies, because the colors and the elegance of geisha always inspire me to create something beautiful and refined. And naturally, my eye is drawn by any interesting jewelry in whatever I may be watching, so I've seen some very inspiring designs in some of the places I least expected to see them (like Six Feet Under, for example).

November 8, 2009 at 12:52 amThis may not count but the Academy Awards red carpet event always inspires me. The jewelry the stars are wearing are just spectacular and I want to figure away to get the the look without the cost of diamonds.

November 8, 2009 at 2:15 amOk my sweety, I think I am a good witch but some times a bad witch wannebe!! To be very honest, I watch a movie and then I am done with it. I have never taken the time to let the different elements of the story move me in any way creatively. This is something I will give a try………

November 8, 2009 at 3:13 amElizabeth, I'm not familiar with either of those. 2 that I liked for colors and general funk were "Dick Tracy" and "Edward Scissorshand."
Wizard of Oz is a childhood thing.

November 8, 2009 at 3:15 amGail, we have Toto too! My husband wouldn't let me name him Toto. So our Cairn terrier is named Zeus. A big name for a little dog. Run Toto, run…he got away, he got away.

November 8, 2009 at 3:21 amPamela, I keep trying to say "I'm not a witch at all" but I have the ruby red slippers that say different. Wicked gave them to me herself…ha ha ha. Usually I see a movie once and I'm done also. Wizard of Oz is the one exception and Sound of Music. Another childhood movie. The hills are alive…

November 8, 2009 at 3:45 amLike Gail, movies don't move me to creativity. I'm more prone to magazine pictures that I can refer to over and over – easier than rewatching a movie.
But I do enjoy seeing Judy and her friends whenever it's rerun. And those ruby shoes – oh, my fav color – remember when Oprah had the REAL ones on her show several years ago and she TOUCHED them?! A big no, no…
Love your new beads – my fav is OZ.

November 8, 2009 at 12:41 pmAnother Kansas gal here, and I love that movie!
But color and texture are the only things that inspire me to create. I don't get them from movies or books (mainly because I'm too busy watching or reading to think about jewelry).
Those buttons are sweet!

November 8, 2009 at 1:42 pmI love the Wizard of Oz, my daugther knew lines from it by the time she was 3–because we watched it so much. Whole family went to a sing along with bubbles and wands at Lincoln Center several years ago. I've never made jewelry from it though–something to think about-making jewelry because of a move. Love you OZ jewelry.

November 8, 2009 at 6:15 pmLove your designs, Tari, and what fun to have these "moments" from an all time favorite movie memorialized in clay! I thought about your question for a few minutes before I realized that the answer to your question is two-fold: As a jewelry designer, I am often inspired by the jewelry I see in movies or TV series, and also, sometimes the movie itself inspires the creative process. I can't think of a recent movie that has inspired, but the visual and emotional impact of "What Dreams May Come" set me on a path that I am still exploring…
Thanks for all of the "fun" and beauty you create, Tari!

November 8, 2009 at 7:28 pmI don't really have a movie that inspires me to create but I do love "Gone with the Wind". Now that is an inspirational movie if I ever saw one. And oh yes there is no place like home.

November 9, 2009 at 12:11 amSandi, pictures are great to have around as reference. I don't remember that about Oprah. I would have that that would be a no-no.

November 9, 2009 at 12:13 amAlice, two Kansas girls responding here, wow! I have to admit, color rules my world! Texture, well, I'm the one you see walking through the store touching everything. It's just not enough to just look at it.

November 9, 2009 at 12:14 amSusan, thanks for the compliment. We used to sing "we're off to see the wizard" all the time when we were going places.

November 9, 2009 at 12:18 amKaren, thank you so much for the compliments. I tend to notice others jewelry also. "What Dreams May Come" is such an emotional movie to watch. My husband and I have both been widowed (that's how we met, through a widowed group). The imagery is fantastic in it. I love Robin Williams too.

November 9, 2009 at 12:19 amValerie, good choice…but what about Tara, frankly Scarlet I don't give damn. Keep saying it, there's no place like home, there's no place like home.

November 9, 2009 at 12:20 amBrenda, glad you like them. I am so with you on going to see the wizard. Maybe we just need to go through the poppy field first!

November 9, 2009 at 3:16 pmThose are great Tari! I think a double sided "Good Witch/Bad Witch" pendant would be fun to create with so you could flip it over depending on your mood!
I am currently making a set of earrings inspired by Twilight…and I haven't seen or read it! But it has to be done as a surprise this week for a client…three pairs of polymer clay fang earrings in three different styles for his wife and two friends who are fanatics!
I just made the fangs…now to make the earrings! Enjoy the day! Erin

November 9, 2009 at 4:55 pmErin, I didn't think about being 2 sided…hmmm. I may have to give that a try. Thanks for the suggestion. How cool Fang Earrings. Hope the client loves them!

November 13, 2009 at 5:21 amOK, these are the best! You so need to now create a "I'll get you my pretty" button and "If I only had a brain" and "Not in Kansas anymore" and "I'm melting" and "The house landed on my sister" and "Munchkin" and "Lollipop kid" and "Toto too" and "I love flying Monkeys" and the list can go on and on… from Glenda the Good Witch and her little pretty dog who are off to see the Wizard every morning in the wonderful land of Oz!
