Welcome to Studio Saturday! Each week one of our contributors gives you a sneak peek into their studio, creative process or inspirations. We ask a related question of our readers and hope you’ll leave comments! As an incentive we offer a free prize each week to bribe you to use that keyboard. The following week we choose a random winner.
This weeks winner is Susan Z. Congratulations! You have won a set of beads from Jennifer Heynen of Jangles.
Send Jennifer an e-mail with your address and she will get it right out to you.
This week we visit the studio of Tari Sasser at
Creative Impressions In Clay.
Good Saturday Morning! Life is crazy as usual. A little crazier getting ready for a graduation party for my son in a week. Guess who’s doing home repairs? OK, me. I haven’t been doing much in the studio. Above is my backsplash on a budget. I’m not quite done, it has to be sealed and all the outlet covers need to be put back.
I used 6″x6″ squares of heavy scrapbook paper and Modge Podged them to the wall in a random pattern. It turned out pretty cool and I love it. Bright colors and fun patterns for my kitchen.
These are new designs I created in March for one of my favorite customers, Lucy at the The Cheshire Cat in Montpelier, Vermont. Yes, I love Lucy!
These were for her spring clothing line. Now I have the Birds and Bees and everything is Rosie.

The large rice beads above were originally shown in a Studio Saturday in October. I had a necklace planned for these beads but a different idea came about. The dotted beads were made with loops and attached to the striped bead for a great pattern contrast. A splash of color was added with the anodized aluminum rings. Voila an extra fun pair of dangle earrings.
My question today is:
What have you put on hold while you do something else?
Or, what would you rather be doing?
Leave a comment answering the question and you could win the 2 Rose Buttons and Bird Button.
Feeling Sassy as usual!

May 28, 2011 at 4:19 pmPutting cabinets in my studio has been on hold for over a year. I have the budget, and the cabinets are picked out, but can't quite seem to get time to work out the layout, buy the cabinets and get them installed. meanwhile, my studio looks like absolute crap.

May 28, 2011 at 4:25 pmI have put a lot of living on hold because of problems w/ my back & my hips. Really pisses me off, too — HA! Having surgery to replace a hip on Tuesday and am thinking that I will have a lot more mobility and a lot less pain. It's all good. Second hip in a few months. I plan to have my life off hold and be, once again, fully functional. Hooray!
P.S. Love those earrings!

May 28, 2011 at 4:26 pmI've set a lampwork bead aside for the umpteenth time, because I still don't have the design it needs to shine in. Times like this are frustrating, but so far I'm always happy when I've waited and not pushed it through.

May 28, 2011 at 4:35 pmIf only my house wasn't a rental… I'm ready to start modge podging scrapbook paper to my walls! I LOVE your back splash, what fun colors. ~ Whitney

May 28, 2011 at 7:03 pmTo work in the studio and get pieces made I put taking care of my yard and garden on hold. I much rather be making beads or enameling then working in the yard!

May 28, 2011 at 7:08 pmRats, for some reason the photos are not showing for me.
Much of our 15 year old home needs an update and even some repairs (like the siding). I'm disgusted that things don't last longer these days. But since we just put one kid through college, and another just finishing his first year of college, money is not available for a remodel.

May 28, 2011 at 7:09 pmUsing scrapbook paper on the wall is GENIUS!! It looks so cool!
I've been putting sorting my beads on hold. I keep adding new containers to hold new beads…so I could have the same color beads in 6 different containers. Ugh.

May 28, 2011 at 7:43 pmI usually would rather be drawing or beading! But alas, the job that pays the bills takes priority. I also tend to put off a lot of the household organization, but finally had a chance to clean out the file cabinet today. I now have three big piles of shredding, but it's progress! I love the new beads you designed and would love a chance to win the roses and bird.

May 28, 2011 at 8:18 pmI have a list of things I want to accomplish – finish a degree, learn Spanish, publish articles in art magazines, on and on. So, In January I decided that "finish a degree" would take priority right now. I put making beads on hold to finish the two science (ugh) classes I need to graduate. One class down, one to go. Graduation at the end of summer. BTW getting to a degree only took 37 years. It's never too late.

May 28, 2011 at 8:21 pmI'm semi-retired and work part-time from Dec. through the end of May. Which means I've had less time to devote to my jewelry till now. But the end of May has finally arrived and I no longer have to put off my jewelry endeavors. Yippee!

May 28, 2011 at 9:58 pmFor no real reason I have paint for a room that will be my studio, but can't seem to move everything out and just do it!
So my jewelry designing takes place in all other rooms in the house which means bits and pieces all over.
But, soon this project will get done…soon.
BTW, great earrings!

May 28, 2011 at 10:03 pmI've put some of my creating on hold while I get some garden work done and some cleaning out of a junk/office room in my house. Hoping to get back to my Glass Kreationz and my beading VERY soon. 🙂

May 28, 2011 at 10:06 pmI put off organizing closets and drawers because I spend all my time in my office/studio. I had a 20 year old cat that I had to put to sleep 2 weeks ago because he got very sick. He spent all his time in here with me. If I left, he followed me. He talked all day long. I guess if he was here I would put off all the organizing and cleaning again just to spend time talking and playing with him. He liked to pull on my Fireline when I was beading and when I do clay he just sat and stared at me until I would stop and pet him and throw his ball. Now I'm getting organized but it's too quiet here.

May 28, 2011 at 10:21 pmHello,
Beautiful back splash! It reminded me of one I did for my laundry room in my former house. I had cheery fabric for the window and the skirt around the sinks so I photo copied it on a color printer then cut 6×6 squares to match the cheap white tile I bought. Then I mod-poged the tile. Then randomly applies white and color tiles to the wall for a mosaic look.
So, I have put off submitting my work to magazines.Just one of those things that never gets done.

May 29, 2011 at 11:48 amUnfortunately, I too cannot see the pictures! Darn! I have been putting off organizing my studio because it's going to be such a big job and it's such a mess. Plus I have a new puppy to deal with 🙂 That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

May 29, 2011 at 1:41 pmI'd rather be outside working in the yard.

May 29, 2011 at 4:00 pmI have put on hold making the ideas in my head into viable polymer clay beads while I finish up end of the year teaching madness for my day job. But I've been making notes as well so will have lots of stuff to get started on when vacation begins in earnest, June 9th.

May 29, 2011 at 6:28 pmSuch pretty buttons!
I feel like I always put things on hold, especially beading. Not always because I need to do other things first, but every so often a case of not having the right supplies nor the money to buy them. Which can be very frustration as the inspiration and eagerness to pursue an idea dies out after a while…

May 29, 2011 at 6:52 pmOoooh, I love your backsplash – you've inspired me to get going on a "problem spot" in my house – there's a doorway between our dining room and living room and the paint just won't stay on it (it's not a real doorway with a real doorframe – it's more of a 4-inch wide wall kind of thing, and since it's a high-traffic spot, it takes a lot of abuse) – I've been threatening to collage it for years, figuring if bits and pieces get shredded, I can just cover them with more ephemera. Nice work!

May 30, 2011 at 3:13 pmThere are many things I have to do.The ones I need to do come first, then the have-tos,then the need tos'.I managed to do a bead bracelet-using a HumbleBead cuff,my MOM wanted it very much&she's always loved Heathers beads, etc. As I do.Otherwise I am painting and washing windows, tagging stuff for a yard sale.I just do what I can.I woke last night at 8pm,thought it was today(sunday)and made husbands morning coffee and woke him to go to work. But I may be doing too much. But the beads are calling me strongly.

May 30, 2011 at 8:04 pmI haven't been able to learn as much as I want lately. Being in the graduation mode for my daughter has put that aside a bit. I would love to start creating my own designs but that I am sure will come in time.

May 31, 2011 at 1:01 pmI've put on hold taking action on opening a bead store. I am not afraid of the store itself, or the work it would take to open it, but I am afraid of letting go of the security of a regular paycheck 🙁
I keep asking for a sign from the universe. I have NOT put listening for it on hold.

May 31, 2011 at 2:02 pmWhere are the pictures? Can't see them, darn it. I have put off several things, the main one is remodeling my old house to sell it. Have already moved in with new hubby but like my sewing studio in the old house so guess I have a block against getting it done. And I have put off reorganizing my bead studio. So how is that for 2 big procrastinations (my new word)?

June 1, 2011 at 12:54 amNot sure what the issue is with the pictures for some. The backsplash pictures have been re-saved and uploaded again. I'm hoping this resolves the issue. I have looked at the post on my computer, iPad and phone and they show up fine. I'm at a loss. My apologies.

June 1, 2011 at 2:04 pmI put off putting away all of the extra beads that are left over at the end of a project. I keep hoping that all the odds and ends will inspire me to create something new and different – and it usually works!

June 5, 2011 at 10:27 pmI would rather be beading than going to work tomorrow morning. So many ideas and new things I want to try in the world of beading…..so many great textures, colors, metals. I am ready to explore and create.

July 20, 2015 at 2:41 pmI am thinking of mod podging my daughter's bathroom ceiling similar to your kitchen backsplash. What kind of sealant did you use and do you think the scrapbook paper will be affected by the steam in the bathroom? Thanks,,. Your looks fantastic!
