Studio Saturday with Jennifer Heynen

Welcome to Studio Saturday! Each week one of our contributors gives you a sneak peek into their studio, creative process or inspirations. We ask a related question of our readers and hope you’ll leave comments! As an incentive we offer a free prize each week to bribe you to use that keyboard. The following week we choose a random winner.

Last weeks winner is Rebecca Anderson . Congratulations you’ve won one (1) of her new Faux Wood Heart Headpins! . Send Cindy an e-mail and she will get it right out to you.

This week we are in the studio of Jennifer Heynen a.k.a. Jennifer Jangles.

Hello, there’s a new studio picture this week. I decided I better change over to my new studio and gallery space. Spring is always busy for me and this one is no different. You can see from the photo there is a lot going on.

These are beads drying and waiting to go into the kiln and below are buttons that have just been painted.
Spring is always busy for making beads. My colors are nice and bright so this is when I tend to get more orders. It’s also a few months before two really big shows. One is Bead and Button and the other is Quilt Market. Both require a lot of work to be prepared. I am working onn new designs for jewelry, kits, and beads for Bead and Button. I am sewing loads and loads of projects for my Quilt Market booth. I have a big calendar on my wall filled with deadlines and appts., it’s quite crazy.

Speaking of designing, here’s a knotted necklace I made as a new project. The step by steps can be found on my blog.

What are you working on? Leave me a comment, letting me know and you could win one of my new O pendants.

What a great studio!!!! I can see how busy you are. How fun it would be to spend a day or two with you in this amazing space!!!

No jewelry making for me today. The house is a wreck and needs my full attention.

    Enjoy your weekend!

What an amazing studio. Hate to say it, but her studio is bigger than my room that I work out of by at least 5 times. Yikes! Lovely work and congrats on being featured.

I am actually working on a masters thesis, so there is little time for beading! I try to have a couple of hours during the week to shake out the cobwebs and do something creative. I am working on crocheted ropes at the moment, but they move slow since I don't work on them all the time.

    Love the O necklace!

I am working on finishing and photographing submissions for the Bead Star contest, and ideas for submissions to 30 minute bracelets book. Then 3 custom orders that I really don't want to do. It would be fun to do something just for me, with no deadlines or restrictions. One of your fun O pendants would certainly do the trick!

After I get the orders on my table finished, I have to finish the pieces for a few shows and contests.

Late March is the kick-off for the busy half of the year here!

I'm working with wire whenever I get the chance or inclination these days. I have fallen obsessively in love with wire wrapping rings. That is one beautiful O ring. Good luck everyone.

Wow, such organization, I am truly impressed by it, your studio and the work you do in it is inspiring.I am away from home at the moment, looking forward to getting back to my own little studio and revving up the work! I love the O ring and the way you have added little beads to the fibre, neat.

Oh yay! Super excited that I won 🙂 What fabulous photos of your beads – I love seeing the process that leads up to an art bead, totally fascinating. And great to see you are surrounded by colour! Thanks for sharing.

Jennifer, what a wonderful studio work area. I can see you are very busy and that is a really good thing. Being surrounded by your creations must give you a sense of complete accomplishment. I don't make my own beads, but certainly appreciate the work and creativity of doing so. I hope to give making paper beads a try very soon. For now, I am creating new and different spring designs with my vast collection of beads and new colored wire. I love creating one-of-a-kind pieces. I would love to own one of your O pieces. I already see a design in my head by layering upon it and adding fabulous accent bright, summer colored pieces to it.
' love your work. Happy Spring.

It was crazy when this was all in my home. Plus, I still have my home studio in full swing. I sew and design there. My husband can tell you I take up a lot of space!

Jennifer – I am in awe of your productivity. I am still working on a couple of (very) overdue Christmas gifts, plus knitting a vest for my husband and making a scrapbook for my mother's 80th birthday next month. I have a few jewelery projects in mind too but I need to catch-up first. The full-time job really gets in my way of doing fun things (lol).

    Love you new pendants!

Wow, that is a lot of ceramics!! I'm not nearly as busy as you appear to be! I am trying to get my bead desk organized, and getting busy making some spring and summer designs!
Thanks for the chance to win you fabulous "O".

What a fabulous studio! Your shop is beautiful, too. I am fortunate to have a room to myself for my studio…would that I were as organized as you are, though!
I'm currently working on kumihimo chokers and adding various fibers to my designs. Love the "O" pendant.

I have so enjoyed looking at your studio! What a fantastic space – mine is a very small desk! I dream of a studio – one day!! I am working on an overall cohesive look for my beads and jewellery. I like the look of my work, but really want something that people will see and say "Ah that's one of Pips – I would know her work anywhere!" Thanks for sharing!
